Hershey’s Enters Vegan Chocolate Segment with Oat Milk Bar

US-based confectionary major Hershey’s has rolled out its first ever vegan chocolate under its ‘Better-for-You’ chocolate category.

Better-for-you, a multi-pronged strategy launched by the company in February this year, is aimed at making snacking healthier. Besides offering portion-controlled snacks, Hershey’s future portfolio will deliver more low sugar, organic and plant-based alternatives. “We are setting the foundation for long-term sustainable growth in the better-for-you category at Hershey,” said Hershey’s President, U.S. Chuck Raup.

The limited-edition oat milk-based bars are currently available only in US and come in two flavours: Classic Dark and Extra Creamy Almond & Sea Salt. Besides being dairy-free, vegan, non-GMO, these are made with Rainforest Alliance Certified cocoa.

Dan Mohnshine, Team Lead of Strategic Growth Platforms (SGP) at the Hershey’s Company, told Totally Vegan Buzz, “We started our work on the Hershey’s Oat Made products by evaluating the current plant-based offerings on the candy market. After finding that the ingredient formulas of existing products could be improved upon, our masterful R&D team at Hershey developed formulas using oats that we believe deliver better on consumers’ expectations than what is in the marketplace today.”
