Venus Williams Launches Plant-Based Company ‘Happy Viking’

Seven-time Grand Slam champion and tennis superstar Venus Williams has launched her vegan protein company called ‘Happy Viking’. In the first phase of launch, the company has introduced a plant-based protein shake in Vanilla Bean and Triple Chocolate flavours. According to the company, the shake is powered by Complete Body Mind Macronutrients (CBMM), a unique blend of ingredients that provide energy to body & mind, while also helping in improve digestion. It has 20g complete protein from yellow peas & brown rice, all nine essential amino acids & BCAAs, DHA omega-3 & high oleic sunflower oil, and all five macronutrients & prebiotic fibre.

Venus switched to a vegan diet after being diagnosed with Sjögren’s Syndrome, an autoimmune disorder that causes joint pain. Due to her disease, she had to pull out of US Open tournament. But, with the help of her sister Serena, she transitioned to a plant-based diet, and within a year she was able to play again.

According to Venus’ statement on her company website, “Adopting a plant-based diet allowed me to get back on the court stronger than ever after my diagnosis. Athletes around the world rely on plant-based nutrition to perform and feel their best.”

The shakes are non-GMO, soy-free, gluten-free, lactose-free, and have no artificial ingredients. They are made up of high-oleic sunflower oil, algal DHA oil, yellow pea protein, brown rice protein, prebiotic vegetable fibre, sea salt and potassium.

Happy Viking’s shakes are currently available for purchase in the United States and will soon be launching in Canada.
