Oscar-winning actress and business mogul Catherine Zeta-Jones has launched a vegan shoe line inspired by her Welsh heritage in partnership with vegan shoe brand Butterfly Twists.
The shoe collection comes in conjunction with the actress’ new athletic apparel line, developed with the dance wear brand Body Wrappers. Both the collections are now available under her brand Casa Zeta-Jones.
“I am so excited to announce my latest projects for Casa Zeta-Jones: active-wear and vegan sneakers,” she posted on Instagram. “Both of these collections are perfect for my ladies who want elegant comfort and versatility without sacrificing style. I hope you all love these collections as much as I have loved creating them.”
She hopes that the new collaborative collection will give women confidence from the ground up. “Everything I have designed has truly been a passion project. I wanted to take this passion a step further and create a brand that’s beautiful and luxurious, while still being attainable,” she shared.
Currently the new Butterfly Twists collection is available across the world in 63 countries.
Several Hollywood celebrities have made their foray into the vegan leather market. In 2018, former vegan Miley Cyrus collaborated with Converse to launch a new vegan line. Actor and singer Jaden Smith created the Vision Racer in partnership with New Balance. His vegan platform shoes were made from sustainable plant-based and partially recycled materials.
Actor and environmentalist Jason Momoa also released a line of vegan suede shoes in February this year in collaboration with climbing apparel brand So iLL. The shoes are made with organic cotton upper, cork top layer and biodegradable outsoles.
Luxury brands are following the cruelty-free route too, with Gucci unveiling proprietary material Demetra, and Hermes and Karl Lagerfeld experimenting with Desserto, Pinatex, Apple leather and other innovative materials.
