Beyond Meat Debuts in India Through Mumbai-Based Supplier Allana

Beyond Meat, the US-based producer of plant-based meat substitutes, has entered the Indian market through UAE-based food manufacturer and distributor IFFCO, which is a subsidiary of Mumbai-based halal supplier Allana.

This marks the arrival of one of the world’s largest meat alternative companies into India, and is clearly the beginning of a new era in the Indian plant-based space. According to publicly available information, two Beyond Meat products will be available on Urban Platter, a leading online grocery store, which announced the news on its social media platform.

Urban Platter posted, “Start planning a BBQParty because we are bringing to you, for the first time in India, ‘Beyond Meat!’ We have their Plant-Based Burgers & Sausages waiting to satisfy your ‘meaty’ cravings! Fire up the grill because shortly you will be able to get your hands on these beautiful ‘plant-based meats!’

Beyond Burgers and Beyond Sausages will be available from 12 April, 2021 on Urban Platter’s website. The Beyond Burger Patties boasts of 19g of plant-based protein and are gluten-free, soy-free and non-GMO.  The Beyond Sausage, on the other hand, has 16g of plant protein, which comes from pea and rice proteins.

Beyond Meat had recently announced a three-year global strategic agreement with McDonald’s, and a global strategic partnership with Yum! Brands to co-create and offer innovative plant-based protein menu items for KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell over the next several years. It is likely that with its entry into India, the company is looking at making its plant-based meat offerings available via these fast-food chains.
