Poha Recipe/Flattened Rice Recipe

 Serves: 4


  • 2 cups poha or flattened rice
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 1 medium boiled potato, cut into small cubes
  • 10-15 curry leaves
  • 2 green chillies, finely chopped
  • 3 tsp roasted peanuts
  • 1 tsp black mustard seeds
  • Juice of one big lemon, around 2-3 tsp
  • 1.5 tsp sugar
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 1.5 tsp turmeric
  • Coriander for garnish
  • Salt as per taste
  • You can also add 2 tbsp of fresh grated coconut if it is available. I am skipping it in this recipe


  • Wash poha 3-4 times and leave it for 5 minutes
  • Then, mix sugar and salt in the soaked poha
  • Take a large pan or a kadai and add oil to it
  • As the oil heats up, add mustard seeds
  • Once the seeds start spluttering, add onions and chillies
  • Once onions start browning, add curry leaves, turmeric and peanuts
  • Add potatoes. You may skip them if you don’t like the taste of boiled potatoes. You may also fry them a little beforehand and then add to make them crunchy
  • Now add poha, coriander and lemon juice
  • Mix well
  • Top it up with some sev or bhujia
  • Serve it hot
